How to Support International Newcomers in Northeast Ohio

Northeast Ohio grows stronger when everyone has the chance to contribute. As a supporter of international newcomers, you play a key role in building a region where people from around the world feel welcome, respected, and able to succeed.

Whether you’re an employer, neighbor, educator, or community member, your actions can help newcomers put down roots and reach their full potential—while enriching our shared community in the process.

Here’s how you can help:

1. Learn About the Newcomer Experience

Understanding the challenges newcomers face and keeping up to date with policy changes can help you become a more informed advocate.

2. Use Your Voice and Platform

Speak up in your workplace, neighborhood, or civic group for policies and practices that support fair access and opportunity.

3. Make Local Connections

Community starts with connection.

4. Be a Bridge

You don’t have to be an expert—just ready to help!

  • Offer to help someone practice English
  • Help newcomers navigate school, transit, or local services
  • Make introductions within your professional network

5. Keep Showing Up

Keep learning, listening, and acting. Each small step helps build a more welcoming and connected Northeast Ohio for all of us.
