Newcomer Spotlight: Hannah Chauvin
Cleveland newcomer Hannah Chauvin relocated from balmy New Orleans, Louisiana to tackle the role of Manager of Alumni Leadership and Community Partnerships at Teach for America (TFA), an organization that places a diverse group of leaders in low-income communities to teach for two years. Hannah says, “Being raised in the south, I had no concept of what a real winter would be like. Everyone made it seem like it was going to be a scene out of Day After Tomorrow where if you are outside you freeze to death. Luckily for me, it was not the case, and I safely made it through my first Midwestern winter.

Northeast Ohio is home to 28 colleges and universities with a total student enrollment of more than 210,000 students. As part of its mission to increase the flow of population into the region, Global Cleveland works to inform international students about immigration options and engage them in life beyond their school. For this reason it is critical that students have the most comprehensive, To get students up-to-date on visa requirements, Global Cleveland asked Erin Brown Farro, a Cleveland-area attorney specializing in immigration law, to provide tips on the latest U.S. immigration information.
Brown Farro has found that when it comes to visas, students are often more knowledgeable than prospective employers. For this reason, it is critically important that students familiarize themselves with the processes and application/extension dates. The Cleveland Engineering Society (CES) is a non-profit professional development organization that provides speaker series and conferences, professional certification test review sessions, and networking and leadership opportunities to engineering and technical professionals across Northeast Ohio. In addition to professional development, CES has an active community outreach program that promotes interest in engineering and technology.

Immigrant Spotlight: Entrepreneur Cesar Sandoval
Entrepreneur Cesar Sandoval is the creator of EthnicQuest, an online advertising company that connects Cleveland-based ethnic and immigrant-owned businesses with anyone seeking international products or services. Explore EthnicQuest on Global Cleveland HERE.
Cesar Sandoval's family is originally from Spain, but he grew up in Mexico. He arrived in Cleveland with a student visa in 2001 to enter the MBA program at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). After completing his MBA, he began working for a business consulting firm and was able to stay in the United States, first on an OPT (optional practical training) visa, then on a NAFTA visa offered to Canadian and Mexican citizens. In 2010, Cesar was granted permanent resident status. He spent five years at a consulting firm, followed by a stint at Lincoln Capital, before branching out on his own as a business consultant.

MetroHealth Opens Innovative Language Access Center
To provide social and medical services to Cleveland residents in need of translation assistance MetroHealth will soon open a Language Access and Communication Center, which will provide medical and social services to Cleveland residents with limited English proficiency, hearing or sight impairments, and illiterate or low- literate native English speakers. Many organizations that provide social and medical services have interpreters available for assistance with language access. However, no other organization has a concierge center for individuals seeking language services.

Global Cleveland Hits the Road to Washington, D.C.
Cleveland-connected residents living in the Washington, D.C. area will get a taste of the jobs and growing industries available in Greater Cleveland on June 26th. Business and civic leaders will travel to D.C.'s National Press Club to spread the word that Cleveland has gone through some dramatic changes since many of them left.
