This past week I had the unbelievable privilege of being the commencement speaker at Thomas Jefferson International Newcomers Academy, a Cleveland Metropolitan School District school, that helps students achieve a comprehensive grasp of their new language in a timely manner so they can successfully transition to a mainstream school. This school is home to 800 students from 25 different nations, speaking more than 15 unique languages before they become proficient in English. The graduation was just beautiful. The students and their families were overjoyed. The faculty and staff was equal parts wistful, proud, relieved, and happy.

In the Land of 1000 Hills: Rwanda

When people think of Rwanda the first thing that comes to mind is the tragic genocide that occurred 22 years ago. In the 100 days following April 6, 1994, approximately 800,000 men, women, and children were massacred in one of society’s most tragic genocides. My travel group arrived in Kigali, following a short plane right from Nairobi, Kenya and as soon as we put our bags down we headed straight to the Genocide Memorial in Kigali.

The Tremont Greek Fest is almost here! The Tremont Greek Fest is held every year Memorial Day Weekend at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. The festival helps to raise money for the Greek Community of Greater Cleveland, maintenance and care of our 105 year old church, youth activities, education, and various outreach programs.

Joe Cimperman to Make His Global Cleveland Debut with an Address to the Asian American Community

Joe Cimperman, the former and longtime member of Cleveland City Council, made one of his first public appearances as President of Global Cleveland at the spring fundraiser of Asian Services In Action. Cimperman delivered the keynote address at the group’s luncheon on April 28 at the Ariel International Center in Cleveland, to a full room of ASIA Inc. members and supporters.
