In October 2014 Global Cleveland partnered with Friends of the Library, the City of Cleveland Heights, University Heights school district, Heights Libraries, US Together, and Welcoming Heights to open a community Welcome Hub for refugees resettling in Cleveland Heights. Participation grew throughout the fall and spring, and we are happy to announce summer programming has now begun!

The summer program meets every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first hour is dedicated to an English as a Second Language (ESL) conversation club, which focuses on sentence building and pronunciation. The club is designed to increase attendees’ confidence and language skills. The second hour of the Welcome Hub functions as a cultural orientation with topics of discussion chosen by attendees. Examples of past discussions include transportation, employment, public services, education, refugee resettlement, and legal issues.

Global Cleveland is currently seeking volunteers to provide childcare during the Tuesday night meetings.
