As part of the Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), MAGNET: The Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network has created a new opportunity for makers, startups, and small manufacturers to turn their ideas into reality. [M]SPIRE is an online business competition for product- and process-focused startups in Northeast Ohio that are aspiring to grow; not only does the program offer a shot at getting up to $20,000 in cash grants, but also provides a path for funding, networking, and third-party services that might be able to help.

Applicants who submit their ideas at mspire.org from now until Sept. 30 will be judged by a review panel of manufacturing experts. Submissions will be judged based on several qualities, including feasibility, economic impact, job creation, and other factors prominent in the local entrepreneurial community.

The best part? Every entry will receive a connection, and select submissions will receive monetary awards to fund engineering, product development, commercialization research, process improvement, or other work with MAGNET.

“Several companies in the region have huge growth potential but lack the appropriate means of producing quality goods or getting the word out,” said Vice President of External Affairs Matt Fieldman. “After seeing the success of similar models in other parts of the country, we’re thrilled to bring these connections to manufacturers who can enhance economic development through the creation of more jobs and opportunities in our community.”
