According to recruiters, LinkedIn is one of the most important tools for modern job seeking. Global Cleveland collaborated with Cleveland State University to provide international students a workshop with Cleveland area recruiters on how to effectively use LinkedIn.  LinkedIn is recognized as the most popular professional social networking tool to screen and select job candidates.  The event featured presentations on LinkedIn from Cleveland-based recruiters such as ERICO International, MetroHealth, Dakota Software, and the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.

Recruiters and hiring managers provided international students answers to the following questions:

  • How do you use LinkedIn, personally or professionally?
  • How often should you make updates to your profile?
  • Are there specific requirements for certain industries to focus on while using LinkedIn, such as certifications, education, industry-specific groups, etc.?
  • How do you schedule meetings or get to know people through LinkedIn?
  • What groups are most helpful to join? Companies to follow?
  • How is LinkedIn different from other forms of social media, and what should students make sure to NOT do when using LinkedIn?

Global Cleveland plans to collaborate with other Northeast Ohio colleges and universities to provide similar workshops connecting international students to job information and opportunities.  For more information on starting a program, contact Global Cleveland’s Talent Connection Manager: Jessica Whale [email protected].
