Cleveland Embraces Creativity with Design Competition for New City Flag
July 1 @ 8:00 am - July 19 @ 12:00 am
The CLE Flag Project invites artists, designers, and Greater Cleveland community members to submit flag designs that capture the city’s unique pride and spirit in a contest for a new city flag. Submissions are open and will be accepted online or via mail until July 19. The top three finalists will receive $1,000 each, with the winner receiving an additional $2,000.
CLE Flag Project’s Process:
- Community Survey: Last winter, a city-wide survey engaged more than 650 Cleveland residents, seeking their insights into what makes Cleveland unique and collecting their thoughts on elements to include in an updated city flag. Results are provided on the project’s website.
- Design Contest: Artists, designers, and community members are currently invited to submit their flag designs, drawing inspiration from Cleveland’s rich culture and history.
- Committee Review: A Committee consisting of local leaders, design experts, and community members will review all submissions and select the top three design finalists.
- Public Vote: The finalists chosen by the Committee will be presented for a public vote later this summer along with the current Cleveland flag, allowing the community to have the final say in the decision.
- Adoption & Unveil: The winning flag design will be presented to Cleveland City Council for their review. If adopted, an unveiling celebration will follow.
