Joe Cimperman


Joe Cimperman was born in Cleveland to a Slovenian family in the St. Clair-Superior neighborhood. He is a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School (1988) and John Carroll University (1992). While attending John Carroll, Cimperman won the Beaudry Award for Christian servant leadership and academic achievement and also founded Project GOLD, an award- winning international community service organization dedicated to assisting underprivileged families. Joe served two years in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, working with developmentally challenged adults in Portland, Maine and at the Don Miller AIDS Hospice in Baltimore, Maryland. After a successful tenure with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Joe returned home to Cleveland to serve as an outreach worker at Cleveland’s West Side Catholic Center. In 2003, Cimperman was selected as a Fellow for the prestigious German Marshall Memorial Fellowship, a program of the German Marshall Fund. Cimperman was elected to Cleveland City Council in 1997 and served until 2016. Cimperman is currently the President of Global Cleveland, an organization whose vision is to create a welcoming region that is a place of opportunity and prosperity for people of all racial, ethnic and international backgrounds. Cimperman lives in Ohio City with his wife Nora and children.

Pamela Holmes - Global Cleveland

Pamela Holmes

Chief Financial Officer

As Global Cleveland’s Chief Operating Officer, Pamela is responsible for fundraising and operations. Pamela is a former broadcast journalist and moderator for Cleveland’s award-winning Corporate Club series. Since 1982, she has raised tens of millions of dollars in the arts, civic, educational, economic development, health, technology, and mental health sectors. She graduated with honors from Skidmore College and has served on a number of boards, including Cleveland State University Business School Advisory, the President’s Advisory Board at Case Western Reserve University and the Ohio Department of Mental Health Community Planning Board.

Jessica Whale - Global Cleveland

Jessica Whale

Director of Global Talent and Economic Development

Jessica Whale manages Global Cleveland’s connection programming, which seeks to connect newcomers and students to the region’s job opportunities and business community. She comes to Global Cleveland with non-profit and education industry experience as well as a degree in Chinese and German Studies from The College of Wooster. Jessica has lived in China, studied abroad in Germany, and now lives in a 150-year old house in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood of Cleveland.

Pamela Holmes - Global Cleveland

Jazmin Long

Director of Community Relations and Strategic Partnerships

Jazmin oversees all welcoming activities that engage organizations and communities in supporting and engaging Greater Cleveland’s 115+ various ethnic groups in immigrant integration efforts, including the Welcoming Cleveland, Latino, Asian and African American Initiatives. As the Director of Community Relations and Strategic Partnerships, Jazmin works to build community awareness of Global Cleveland’s mission to welcome international newcomers in to our Northeast Ohio community. Additionally, she works to establish partnerships that focus on empowering people and neighborhoods through economic development tools.

Jazmin is a graduate of the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, where she obtained a dual masters degree in Social Administration and Nonprofit Management. Jazmin comes to Global Cleveland with considerable community organizing experience. Additionally, Jazmin is the co-founder of the Cleveland Young Professional Minority Women’s Group (CYPMWG), an organization whose mission is to position women of color as assets in their community.

Courtney Ottrix

Communications Director

Courtney Ottrix oversees everything social including content and engagement across all Global Cleveland’s social media platforms as well as management of the monthly newsletter. She is also responsible for the development and management of the Advocate marketing program. The Advocate program partners Global Cleveland with the region’s institutions of higher education and businesses to attract and connect newcomers to the region through the delivery of alumni, student and employee marketing resources. Courtney is the wife of Bryon Ottrix Sr. and the proud mother of two sons, Paul and Bryon.

Wenzhu Sun - Global Cleveland

Wenzhu Sun

Connection Program Associate

Wenzhu Sun works on Global Cleveland’s connection programming. She educates international job seekers about the job search process in the U.S., and connects them to professional resources in order to help them find employment and/or internship opportunities in Greater Cleveland. She also manages the Global Cleveland Talent Connection LinkedIn Group and oversees job seeker content on the Global Cleveland website.

Wenzhu has lived in China and Canada before she moved to the U.S., and is aware of cultural differences among countries.  She comes to Global Cleveland with non-profit industry experience as well as a master degree in Sociology from University of Windsor. She speaks fluent Mandarin and English.
