American colleges and universities are competing globally for top talent. Global Entrepreneur-In-Residence (Global EIR) program provides colleges and universities with a mechanism to increase global outreach and expand entrepreneurship offerings to students. Through this program, academic institutions leverage the expertise and experience of international entrepreneurs who serve as technical experts and mentors for students.
How it Works:
International entrepreneurs dedicate 20 hours of their experience and expertise per week toward the universities’ mission. Contribution includes mentorship and office hours, published research, and facilitating collaboration between universities and industry.
For International Entrepreneurs:
In return, the entrepreneurs receive an H-1B visa that is not subject to the visa lottery. Through this program, foreign entrepreneurs are able to develop their business ventures in the U.S. without worrying about their immigration status.
Flashstarts and Global Cleveland have launched the Global EIR program in Northeast Ohio in order to serve as a resource for our local collegiate entrepreneurship programs and encourage international entrepreneurs to build their businesses in our region.
Global Cleveland is a nonprofit organization that welcomes and connects international newcomers to social and economic opportunities in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Global Cleveland views engaging immigrants as an ingredient of regional economic development and is positioned to catalyze and launch efforts that will help attract newcomers to the region and support those that are already here. You can learn more about Global Cleveland at globalcleveland.org or follow @GlobalCleveland on Twitter.
Global Cleveland believes that partnering with Flashstarts to bring more global talent to Cleveland and help more immigrant entrepreneurs grow their businesses will be very beneficial to our community. While Global Cleveland seeks to help talented immigrants thrive in the region, given current immigration policy, getting proper visa status can be challenging. This program aligns perfectly with Global Cleveland’s vision of transforming Cleveland into an international hub of innovation.
Global EIR around the Country:
The Global EIR program was first established in Massachusetts in 2014. Subsequently, 6 more universities have launched or are launching the Global EIR program. Flashstarts is bringing this program to Northeast Ohio for the first time with the goals of securing differentiated resources for our local entrepreneurship programs and encouraging international entrepreneurs to build their businesses in our region.
