Bhutanese Students Publish Newspaper

Brothers Hari Kumar Dahal and Ganga R. Dahal started Connecting Cleveland, a Bhutanese student volunteer group, dedicated to helping Bhutanese refugees adjust to the Cleveland lifestyle. The group produces a monthly newspaper, written in English and Nepali, to teach their Bhutanese families and friends about cultural events and the education and financial assistance programs available to them in Cleveland.

In the past couple of years, the Greater Cleveland area has seen an influx of Bhutanese refugees. Before arriving here, most of them lived in refugee camps in Nepal and India. When offered the chance to move to the United States and gain freedom and peace, several families took the opportunity and were directed to Cleveland.

Ohio Governor John Kasich supports Talent Attraction Initiative

At the launch of Global Cleveland's Talent Attraction Campaign on May 1st, Governor John Kasich said the program could become a model for the state. Demonstrating his support of the organization's talent attraction initiative, JobsOhio President John Minor announced an award of $750,000 to assist Global Cleveland in its efforts. Mayor Frank Jackson also addressed the audience of over 1000 supporters, providing a warm welcome to all current and future newcomers.

The fun, multimedia event celebrated Cleveland and the positive momentum it is currently experiencing. The evening included international cuisine, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "Definitive Cleveland Playlist", and drawings for great Cleveland-related prizes.

Global Cleveland Hits the Road to Washington, D.C.

Cleveland-connected residents living in the Washington, D.C. area will get a taste of the jobs and growing industries available in Greater Cleveland on June 26th. Business and civic leaders will travel to D.C.'s National Press Club to spread the word that Cleveland has gone through some dramatic changes since many of them left.
